It Began in a Delhi Classroom

It began in 1999, in a classroom in Prem Nagar, Delhi.
Rohit Thakar had not set out to be a teacher. He had studied in Delhi and started his career as a medical representative with a pharmaceutical company, selling to doctors and hospitals. He was good at it. Within a few years he was promoted to Area Sales Manager.
Selling taught him something he had not expected to learn. In room after room, he watched capable, intelligent people lose deals, lose promotions, and lose confidence, not because they lacked knowledge, but because they could not say what they knew in English. He recognised it, because he had felt it himself.
So he began teaching. First a handful of students, in the evenings. Then more. Then a classroom of his own.
Twenty-five years later, Rohit English Academy has taught thousands of students, from school children preparing for exams to working professionals preparing for the interview that changes their career. The classroom in Prem Nagar is still there. What has changed is that it now reaches anywhere in India, and anywhere in the world, through a screen.

Teaching English since 1999. A language and soft skills trainer, public speaker, and coach who has run training programmes in government schools and private organisations across Delhi and beyond.
He began his career in pharmaceutical sales, rising to Area Sales Manager, before turning to training full time. That background is not incidental to how he teaches. He knows what a sales call sounds like, what a manager wants to hear in a meeting, and what an interviewer is actually listening for, because he has sat on both sides of all three.
Students describe his classes as direct, patient, and unusually free of judgement. He is known for getting hesitant speakers talking within the first week, which is, in his view, the only measure of teaching that matters.
Every class is taught by Rohit Sir himself. No assistant tutors. No rotating instructors. The teacher you meet in your free trial is the teacher you learn from until you finish.
What Rohit Sir Believes
Nobody Is Bad at English
Most of our students have studied English for ten years or more. They can read it. They can understand a film in it. They can write an email in it, slowly. What they cannot do is speak it, out loud, in front of another person, without the fear of being laughed at.
That is not an English problem. That is a fear problem. And fear does not respond to more grammar.
If a Correction Is Not Understood, It Does Not Stick
This is why Rohit Sir teaches in Hindi.
When a student is corrected in English, they nod. Sometimes they even repeat the correction back. And then, three days later, they make the same mistake, because they never understood why it was a mistake. They only understood that it was one.
When the same correction is explained in Hindi, in the language they think in, it lands. They understand the logic. And they stop making the mistake.
Most online platforms cannot do this. Their tutors do not speak Hindi. It is the single biggest reason our students improve faster than they expected to.
You Learn to Speak by Speaking
Not by watching videos. Not by memorising word lists. Not by finishing an app’s daily streak.
By opening your mouth, in front of a real person, and being corrected kindly when you get it wrong. This is why batches are capped at ten students, and often far fewer. In a room of forty, you listen. In a room of six, you speak.

The Sunday Club
Most courses end when the last class does. Ours does not.
Every student who completes a course joins the Sunday Club, our alumni community, where former students meet to keep speaking English with each other. No fee. No syllabus. Just the practice that keeps fluency from fading.
